Randy Carl O’Neal, born to Waymon Sidney and Melbourne (Mel) Aleta (Crow) O’Neal on August 28,
1951 in Norman. His grandparents were Grover and Eliza O’Neal, Heavner, OK and Addison and Hattie
(Smith) Crow from Conser, OK.
Randy went to Washington grade school and West Jr high in Norman. He graduated 1969 from Norman
High school. Randy attended Eastern Oklahoma State in Wilberton for a short time. He attended a semester
at OU in 1971 and worked part time for TG&Y in Norman. The fall of 1971, he went to work full time as
Assistant Manager at the Shawnee TG&Y.
In 1972, Randy met and married Gayle McMahan of Shawnee, Oklahoma. He continued to work in the
Shawnee TG&Y store. Randy worked for TG&Y stores for 27 years, in Purcell, Chickasha, Yukon and El
Reno as store manager. While living in Shawnee, Randy and Gayle had Christopher Scott, Amy Rhea, and
twins Casey Ryan and Jason Bryan.
Randy and Gayle moved to Austin, Texas and he went to work for Winn’s variety stores. He later worked
for Handi Dan Home center in San Antonio, Texas. In 1988, Randy and Gayle divorced.
In 1989, Randy returned to Oklahoma and he went to work for Dillard’s Department stores at Shepherd
Mall. He met and married Julie Lucas in 1990. They moved to California in the fall 1990 where Randy
managed McCrory’s variety stores in Suisun City, Sacramento and later in San Jose. While in California,
they traveled over the state attending festivals, toured the wine country, seeing Northern California. He
enjoyed hosting family and friends who came to visit them in California. They returned to Norman,
Oklahoma in 1993 where Randy worked for BD Painting in Noble. In 1996, Randy began working for
Cleveland County Sheriff’s office as a patrol deputy and was later promoted to Corporal. Randy and Julie
moved to the Crawford in 1999 where Randy began working for the Roger Mills County Sheriff’s office. He started in dispatch and later became a field deputy. In 2002, he became Under-Sheriff. He left the Sheriff’s office in 2007 and worked for Roger Mills County District 3 until he retired in 2014. In 2007, he was appointed to the Board of Trustees for the Roger Mills Memorial Hospital. He became chairman of the Board and felt a dedication to help of the citizens of Roger Mills County by having the best medical facility possible.
Randy and Julie have two children, Caitlin Ann and John Conner O’Neal.
Randy and a group of friends formed the Spring Creek Regulators, an old west reenactment group in 2002. He enjoyed performing all over western Oklahoma as the Irish Widowmaker. He enjoyed and was an avid fan of OU football. He played golf every chance he had.
Randy is proceeded by his parents, Sid and Mel, grandparents, and sons Chris, Casey and Jason.
Randy is survived by Julie of the home, Amy and husband Brandon Steffens, Oklahoma City. Caitlin and husband Travis Perriman, Durham and John of Oklahoma City. Grandsons Gaven Kanske, Georgia, Cashen and wife MacKen zie Steffens of Norman, Masen and Cannen Steffens of Oklahoma City. Great-grandchildren, Declan Kanske and Lena Steffens. Sister Nancy and husband Doug Wance, of Norman. Brother-in-law, Frank and wife Lynda Lucas of Cheyenne. Nephews Jeremy Wance of Norman and Jonathan and husband Bryan Wance-Peluso of Florida, Grant and wife Taylor Lucas of Oklahoma City. Nieces Jessica and husband Steven Bentley of Cheyenne, Ashlea and husband Nehemiah Yager of Cheyenne. And a host of family and friends.
