Memorial services for longtime Norman resident Louise James
Norris, 83, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday at McFarlin Memorial
United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the IOOF Cemetery, under
the direction of Mayes Funeral Directors.
Mrs. Norris, died today, Oct. 9, at Norman Regional Hospital, after
an extended illness.
The daughter of Joseph and Katherine James, Linnie Louise was
born on Aug. 28, 1907, at Macksburg, Ohio. The family moved to
Norman in 1919, where she graduated from Norman High School
in 1925, and from the University of Oklahoma in 1929.
Prior to her marriage to John Hubert Norris on June 4, 1937, she
taught at Wilson Elementary School, where she was a principal.
Before her retirement in 1969, she also taught freshman English
at Norman and West Junior High Schools.
Memberships include Aplha Xi Delta, Delta Kappa Gamma Society
International, Cleveland County Retired Educator's Association
and Norman Regional Hospital Auxiliary. Mrs. Norris was also a
member of McFarlin Memorial United Methodist Church, where
she served as Sunday school pianist and song leader, soprano
soloist and a member of the choir, United Methodist Women, Kappa
Phi Methodist Women's Service Organization and the Builder's Class.
Mrs. Norris is survived by two daughters, Virginia Imig of Salida,
Colo., and Carolyn Gentle of Englewood, Colo.; and four grandchildren,
John and Sarah Imig, and Mark and Ann Van Wagner, all of Colorado.
Mrs. Norris was preceded in death by her husband, John Hubert; her
parents, Joseph and Katherine; two sisters, Virgil LeHew and Hazel
Williams; and a brother, Joseph James Jr.
The family has suggested McFarlin Memorial United Methodist
Church, Music Department, as appropriate for memorial contributions.
