James W. "J.W. Little, 85, Norman died Sunday, Dec. 29, in Norman.
Services are schedule for 1 p.m. Tuesday, at the Havenbrook Funeral
Home Chapel, with Dr. Lavon Brown officiating and James Nelson
assisting. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery in Purcell, under the
direction of Havenbrook Funeral Home.
He was born Nov. 29, 1911, in the Stealey community near Wayne,
to Ira "Boss" and Lena Parker Little. He married Ruby Nelson on
Aug. 25, 1936, and they were married for more than 60 years.
He graduated from Stealey Elementary School and Purcell High
School. He received a B.S. degree from Oklahoma East Central
State College, and an M.S. degree from Oklahoma A&M.; He was
a retired school teacher, having taught in Norman Public Schools
for many years. He was a member of the Oklahoma Education
Association, the Oklahoma Retired Teachers Association and
the National Retired Teachers Association. He was a member of
the First Baptist Church in Norman.
Mr. Little was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Joe
and Laurence Little.
He is survived by his wife, Ruby, of the home; daughters, LaVelle
Walker and her husband, George, of Albuquerque, N.M. and LaVonne
Sololmon of Irving, Texas; a brother, Ira Little Jr. and his wife, Aline,
of Ada; sisters, Ola Wyatt of Purcell; and Ollie Helms and her
husband, Ralph, of Kingston; grandchildren, Penni Doyle and her husband,
Tom, Renee Harper and her husband, Walt, and Clark and Traci
Solomon; great-grandchildren, Jimmy and Joe Harper; many cousins,
nephews and nieces; and other relatives and friends.
Bearers will be Ronnie Little, Randy Little, Roland Little, Steve
Little, Ira Little and Clark Solomon. Alternate bearers will be Jack
Moore and Mike Horn. Honorary bearers will be the members of the
Josh Lee Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church.
