Geneva Mitchell Cates died Sunday, May 12, in New Haven, Conn. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Havenbrook Funeral Home Chapel in Norman. Burial will follow at the Norman I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
Mrs. Cates was born Sept. 28, 1915, in Fort Worth, Texas, to Myrtle Ring Mitchell and William Alexander Mitchell. She graduated from Southwestern State College in Weatherford and earned a master�s degree from the University of Oklahoma. She was a teacher in Leedey, Hollis, Moore and Norman schools before becoming an elementary school principal at the end of her career.
She and her husband, Eugene Franklin Cates, were members of the First Baptist Church in Norman. After retirement, she was active in Friendship International, where she taught English to women from other countries whose families had come to Norman. She also was a member of the Old Regime Book Club.
She is survived by her husband; a daughter, Carolyn Kovel; two grandchildren, Dara and David Kovel; and a sister, Grace Hunter.
