Edward Lee Guy, 48, Oklahoma City, died Aug. 29 at the
Veterans Administration in Oklahoma City.
Memorial services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at
McFarlin Memorial United Methodist Church. with the Rev.
Mike Nicolson officiating. Arrangements are under the direction
of Mayes Funeral Directors.
He was born Jan 8, 1951 in Texarkana, Ark., the son of Lee Roy
Guy and Betty Orahood Guy. He grew up in Stillwater and Norman.
He attended Norman High School and in 1967 enlisted in the U.S.
Marine Corps. A decorated veteran, he served two tours of duty in
Vietnam. He was awarded the Rifle Sharpshooter Badge, Meritorious
Unit Commendation, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service
Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with Two Stars, Vietnam Meritorious
Unit Citation Cross of Gallantry with Color, Vietnam Meritorious Unit
Citation Civil Action First Class with Color, and Vietnam Campaign
Medal with Device.
He married Cynthia Hoyle on Dec. 27, 1994, in Norman.
Mr Guy worked with Scott Co. Security Services.
He was involved in drug recovery efforts and carried a powerful
message of hope and recovery into hospitals and institutions.
He was a member of McFarlin Memorial United Methodist Church,
and enjoyed fishing. He loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his mother, Betty Orahood Smith of Norman; his
wife, Cynthia Guy, of Oklahoma City; a daughter, Kristin Barton and
her husband, Freddie, of Galveston, Texas; a stepson, Yancy Hoyle
of Norman; two grandchildren, Joshua and April Barton of Galveston;
a brother, Jerry Guy and his wife, Mary, of Norman; and a sister,
Judy Guy, of Edmond.
Mr. Guy was preceded in death by a brother, Roy Gene Guy; his
stepfather, L.A. "Barney: Smith; and his niece, Sheila Renee Gariepy.
