I moved from Norman to Austin in the middle of the tenth grade. I got kicked out of school in Austin the next year for refusing to get a haircut so I ran away to California. I was sent back to Austin shortly after arriving in LA. I drifted around between Austin, Houston and San Antonio for the next 20 years with a few detours. Anyway in 1988 I received a BA from the University of Texas at San Antonio. After that I got involved in HIV prevention research with drug users. Ive doing that for over 20 years now, I also kept going to school and got my doctorate in public health in 1996. I moved to Durham, North Carolina in 1999 to take a job with Research Triangle Institute (RTI), which is a large non-profit research institute. At RTI, I write papers and grant proposals, and run research projects.
Ive been married since 1992 and I have a 9 year old daughter that keeps me on my toes.
