Rossie Jewel Wampler Oliphant Primrose, 95, of Norman died Friday,
July 20, in Austin, Texas. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m.
Monday at Havenbrook Funeral Chapel with Lavonn Brown officiating.
Burial will be in the Norman IOOF Cemetary. Havenbrook Funeral
Home is handling arrangements.
Mrs. Primrose was born Jan. 10, 1906, at Weatherford, Texas, to
William Jasper Wampler and Ella Aradelle Edgeman Wampler. She
came to Norman in 1916 from Weatherford.
She graduated from high school in Norman and graduated from
the University of Oklahoma with a bachelor's degree in music, pedagogy
and a master's degree in music education.
Mrs. Primrose taught music in the Norman school system until
retirement. She was awarded Teacher of the Year by Norman Public
Schools in 1962.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Norman, where
she was organist. Mrs. Primrose was also organist for McFarlin
Memorial United Methodist Church in Norman. She was member of
the Norman Fine Arts Club.
Mrs. Primrose was preceded in death by her first husband, Howard
Z. Oliphant Sr; her second husband, Odies L. Primrose; her parents;
four brothers; and a sister.
She is survived by a son, L. Dee Oliphant, and his wife, Nancy of
Pauls Valley; daughters, Ann Baker, and her husband, Charles of
Jackson Hole, Wyo, Betty O. Zinn and her husband, Dr. Dale Zinn,
of Austin, Texas. and Rossie Jane Smith, and her husband, Dr. H.M.
Smith. of Morganfield, Ky; grandchildren, Charles Mark Baker, and
his wife, Grace; Howard Michael Smith, and his wife, Angie; Carry
Ann Graham, and her husband, Jack; Andrea Marie Messer, and her
husband, Tim, and Melissa Jane Boyd; great-grandchildren, Rhett
Baker, Merritt Baker, Tyler Graham and Lisa Swain; and numerous
nieces and nephews.
Bearers will be Warren Ward, Doug Hickson, Darrel Crissup,
Jacob Crissup, Jerry Rhoto and Turner Primrose.
